Chinese Healing Illustrations, Part One (44) This video highlights the differences between East and West in healing methods and approaches for different categories of illness. Flu, fever, cough, congestion, and associated symptoms Chinese: The flu is a seasonal ailment common in winter and spring due to sudden weather change. It will pass in a few days. Resting and drinking plenty of water will do. To help reduce discomforts and quicken recovery, use herbs to expel the fever and phlegm, to moisten the throat and strengthen the lungs. Wear appropriate clothes and beware of contagion to reduce chances of catching a cold (See my videos on flu and cough). Western: Doctors also advise plenty of rest and water. Use pills to suppress body temperature, cough, phlegm, and nasal congestion. Antibiotics are commonly used, which may erode bodys own defense mechanism. As for prevention, flu shots are employed for everybody. Is this necessary? Joint Pains Chinese: Joint pains worsen when the weather changes. Rest enough to avoid over-exertion leading to more pains. Also avoid over-exposure to the elements of wind, humidity and cold with appropriate clothing. Use herbs to strengthen blood circulation for pain relief, and to strengthen joints, tendons and muscles (See my video on joint pains).
