What are some "workable" degrees I can take before I go to naturopathy school?
Posted by admin on Aug 21, 2009
So, in the futur I would like to be a naturopath and open up my own clinic. I am just not sure about what degree I should take first before I can enter the naturopathy school. Any ideas?
Please, any ideas?
In North America, a "doctor of naturopathic medicine" (N.D. or N.M.D.) credential is available from six accredited full-time schools of naturopathic medicine (see first source below). The accrediting agency for naturopathic medical schools, the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education was first recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education in 1987. The CNME lost this recognition in 2001 for failing to enforce its standards on the Southwest College of naturopathic medicine, then in the preaccreditation stage; CNME applied for and regained recognition in 2003.
The naturopathic medical curriculum at the full-time CNME accredited schools follows a pattern similar to that of medical and osteopathic schools: two years of basic science courses and two or more years of clinical work. Three years of premedical college prerequisites are required for admission. Approximately 950 students were enrolled in the six accredited schools in 2007.
I would check with all of the schools to see what their specific requirements are but you are basically looking at pre med courses to start.
Ambrotose, Mannatech and Complementary and Alternative Medicine

There are many terms used to describe health care approaches that are outside the realm of conventional medicine and its practices in America and abroad. complementary and alternative medicine, also known as CAM, is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are used together with conventional medicine to support complete health and wellness.
Types of Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Often, CAM therapies are used in conjunction with conventional medical techniques to promote health and wellness. Some of these methods include homeopathic medicine, naturopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, energy therapies, yoga, and so on.
As well, biologically based therapies are substances found in nature, such as foods, herbs, and vitamins. Some of these include dietary supplements, glyconutrients, herbal products, and the use of other natural therapies to support optimal well-being.
Dietary Supplements
Dietary supplements are products taken orally that contain a “dietary ingredient” intended to supplement the diet. These may include vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and substances such as enzymes, and metabolites. They come in many forms, including powders, capsules, concentrates, tablets, extracts, gel caps, and liquids.
Glyconutrients
During the early to mid-1990s, scientists increasingly began to realize the importance of carbohydrates beyond the common belief that they were simply used by the body to create energy. Approximately 200 monosaccharides are found in nature, but only a handful are thought to be necessary for cells to communicate effectively with each other.
Glycobiology is a field of science that focuses on the role carbohydrates play in the body’s biology. Nutritionists have long known of the energy value of carbohydrates, however, it is only in the last few years that it has become increasingly apparent that certain carbohydrates are much more important to cell function than as simple energy sources. A chapter devoted to glycoproteins in Harper’s Biochemistry states that there is evidence that some of these eight plant-based sugars may be beneficial when added to a person’s diet. Ambrotose is an advanced glyconutritional technology that Mannatech places in many of its products, for example.
Some plant-based polysaccharides are known to support to the immune system and certain sugars may be used by the body to create glycoforms. Glycoforms are structures present on the surface of nearly all our cells which allow one cell to communicate with other cells. In fact, sugars are attached to most proteins and many of the fat molecules in the body.
These molecules assist cells in identifying each other and communicating messages such as “I’m a tissue cell.” This cellular communication supports gland and organ function, is a natural immune defense, and works to increase optimal health overall.

Can a catholic chaplain be requested for alternative treatment patient?
Posted by admin on Aug 11, 2009
I know if people are sick and in hospital they can be assisted by a chaplain every week because they can’t get to Mass. Can a patient request a chaplain on a weekly basis to hear the Mass if he or she chooses prolonged alternative treatment, like a naturopathy clinic or health resort? Thanks.
Yes. But with the priest shortage, often you get an Eucharistic minister (a lay person who brings the Eucharist to you from the church). So don’t expect a priest to be able to come very often. I know our priest, in addition to his own church’s masses, says mass at some nursing homes and does a great many other things. So his time is very full.
Natural Home Remedies for Diabetes
Posted by admin on Aug 10, 2009
Symptoms: Diabetes, or Diabetes Mellitus to give it its proper medical name, is a disorder of assimilation. When the pancreases become inactive or atrophied and cease to produce insulin, the body is unable to convert the sugar into energy for the muscles. Its chief symptoms are weakness and loss of weight, great thirst and increase in the amount of urine passed. There is sometimes voracious appetite but the patient. Gradually becomes more and more emaciated. Owing to poor vitality of the tissues, various skin eruptions like boils and carbuncles appear. There may be itching in the groins and eczema. A serious complication could be gangrene of the skin of the feet, beginning with the toes. A curious phenomenon is that the younger the patient, the more rapid is the course of the disease.
Allopathy depends mostly on administration of insulin to, dissolve the sugar in the blood and forbidding starchy and sugary foods to the patients modern science has not been able to pinpoint the real cause of the disease: what is available is only generalizations such as, obese persons are more susceptible to the disease, it attacks males more than females, or that it runs in the families etc.
Treatment: As in cases of other diseases, naturopathy recommends a diet and no drugs. The main purpose is to help the body to assimilate the sugar into the system and that can be achieved by a special diet. I would recommend about one kg of curd made from cow’s milk and various types of gourds without salt. The greener the vegetables, the most beneficial it would be. Sour fruits like tomatoes, oranges, pineapple, rose apple (jamun), scolanum (makoy) could also be taken with advantage. The patient can also take one or two chappaties made of flour, which has not been passed through sieve. The person suffering from diabetes must take long walks (preferably ten kilometers) daily. Remember that the disease strikes generally those who lead a sedan try life, and are used to a rich diet.
Cereals, sugar and preparations should not be taken for some time. The other method of treating the disease is by fasting for a couple of days and then eating sour fruit only for a week during which green vegetables may also be alternated with the fruits. Curd made from cow’s milk must form and inevitable part of the every meal. If the curd is not available, about 50 grammes of germinated gram may be taken with every meal. After about a fortnight of this regimen, the patient can take bread made of whole flour.
Diabetics must take physical exercise as that helps to utilize the blood sugar. Walking, preferably jugging is the best exercise I can recommend. Hipbath recommended by kunhe is extremely beneficial in the case of diabetes, particularly for patients suffering from constipation. For a leathery skin most diabetes develops, the best exercise is vigorous rubbing of the skin with a rough towel for fifteen minutes before a bath with cold water.
Allopaths while recommending a sugar face-free diet to the diabetic prescribes a high protein diet like fish, eggs, meat and lentils leading to an imbalance in his food. Advising patients to take saccharine instead of sugar, the allopaths expose them to the danger of slow poisoning. The harmful effects of saccharine have recently been observed.
The diabetic must also try to remain cheerful and keep his poise. There are some asanas recommended by yoga specialists which ave proved helpful in dealing with the disease.

How do I find good alternative health care providers in the state of Maine?
Posted by admin on Aug 6, 2009
Who would you highly recommend for health care providers in the state of Maine? Professionals who study alternative medicine. Health care providers who are homeopathy, naturopathy, herbalist, and a wide variety of health care licensed professionals.
If you have a really good health food store with knowledgeable people I would ask who they might know or suggest. Also the Internet site www. alternative medicine for Maine would hopefully give some info. Good Luck

what should be the diet for the person suffering from this disease?
is there a naturopath in your area? I would make an appointment and go talk to one. I am not against conventional medicine- I take plenty, But, please read the following article
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY
(TRY THE KEY WORD) AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING
TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY \
Cancer Update from John Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do
not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few
billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer
cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to
detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. \
2 Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s
lifetime.
3. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will
be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple
nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental,
food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet
and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells
and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow,
gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver,
kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do
not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and
radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the
person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and
become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer
cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells
by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder.
By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the
cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are
made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be
Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a
chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s
aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the
gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus.
By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk
cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment.
A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little
chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics,
growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people
with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains,
seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline
environment .
About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable
juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to
cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy
cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh
vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts)
and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are
destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine.
Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting
properties. Water- best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known
toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and
requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in
the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic build-up.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining
from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls
of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer
cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Floressence,
Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s
own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.
Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or
programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged,
unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive
and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.
Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful
and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn
to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment.
Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the
cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer
cells.
PLEASE READ ON
1. No plastic containers in microwave.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This
information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.
Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are
highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.
Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this
releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness
Program Manager at Castle Hospital was on a TV program to explain this
health hazard .
He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we
should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.
This especially applies to foods that contain fat.
He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics
releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or
ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only
without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups,
etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s just safer to
use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some
of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper.
The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as
dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food
is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the
plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your
life.
